Chipped Ham Barbecue Sandwiches

With all the sweet and smoky flavors of the barbecue made right on the stovetop, these satisfying sandwiches are stuffed with shredded ham, basted in a sweet glaze of brown sugar, cinnamon, smoke and spices, and served warm.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup sweet pickle relish
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 pinch ground black pepper
  • 1 pinch garlic salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon liquid smoke flavoring
  • 1 pound chipped ham (or shaved ham)
  • 6 hamburger buns

Cooking Instructions

  1. In a large saucepan, combine the ketchup, water, brown sugar, cider vinegar, sweet pickle relish and Worcestershire sauce. Stir in the cinnamon, black pepper, garlic salt and liquid smoke. Bring to a simmer over low heat and simmer for 20 minutes.
  2. Shred the ham and stir into the mixture. Simmer longer if desired, then serve hot on hamburger buns. The mixture can also be frozen.
